Over the years I’ve been working with women (and men) to maintain or establish their skin care regimen, I’ve found that most people know very little about how to care for their skin. Most people resign themselves to the occasional acne, dry skin, rosacea or other skin complaint, thinking that it’s just the way things are.
One of the first things I do is ask them about what products they use for their skin. More often than not, these folks use products they purchase off the shelf at the drug store or department store.
Off-the-shelf products are not made for the individual’s specific skin type or problem, and they only treat the surface of the skin. It’s like ordering food in a restaurant where the waiter doesn’t speak your language; your skin will never get what it needs if the product wasn’t designed to address the issue.
The key to effective skincare products is ABSORPTION. In order to “cure” acne, control rosacea, and keep skin looking and feeling young and smooth, you have to address the layers beneath the skin’s surface, give the cells the nourishment they need to support what is above them, and the product you use needs to “communicate” to the cells it’s treating.
Acne Case Study
Ann is a client who suffered from adult acne. She first visited me in her mid-forties, after trying nearly every product on the market, to no avail.
I started with a Dermaplaning Treatment, which removes the fine hair and dead skin cells on the surface and allows better absorption of the right products; and a Hydrafacial, which deep cleans pores and infuses the cells with the hydration they crave.
Next, we replaced her over-the-counter products with those designed for her sensitive skin and specific problems – mainly acne and scarring. She replaced her “beauty bar” (soap) with a facial cleanser, added a scrub and a lotion that treated acne without drying her skin, used a tinted acne cream to treat her breakouts, and started using our EltaMD sunscreen products.
It has now been more than three years since Ann has experienced an acne breakout, and people who compliment her complexion are shocked to learn she turned 50 this year!
Because technology is constantly changing, and science is always finding new ways to improve existing products, I’m always on the lookout for the products that will help new and existing clients love their skin.
My latest addition to my product line is Trihex-Alastin, which infuses the skin with peptides and other ingredients that enhance the skin, clear damaged and aged proteins, and facilitates the recovery and rejuvenation of skin cells by promoting elastin and collagen production.
For my clients who use (or have been wanting to try) Neocutis products, I’m offering a 20% off Fall Stock-Up Special. Call or visit the spa to learn more!
